▲40 °C heat extremes are no longer implausible in the Nordic countries (nature.com)

Makes me sad because I want to move to Norway in hopes of fleeing the German summer :(

It will still be cooler here than in Germany. And if the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) fails it will quickly become a lot colder than it is now.

Also the abstract talks only about peak temperatures. Those peaks tend to last only for a few days or even less in Norway, the July average where I live (about 40 km south of Oslo) this year was 18 C (0.5 C higher than normal), maximum was 32 C (for two days), minimum 6 C.

Very jealous :D Unironically hate summer so much, July with an average of 18C° is like a dream

if AMOC fails, we've got bigger fish to fry

When, not if, unless we somehow manage to replace most governments, world wide in the next 2-3 years (we're definitely committing to the high-emissions roadmaps that show > 70% chance of terminal collapse by 2100):

Mulching is an old tradition. Where they have it, people spread sheep's wool over the soil to shield it from the sun. Or they cut plants with a scythe and lay them on the ground as green manure. It covers the soil and also feeds what you grow on it later, so you are actually producing soil.
